2011 Kigurumi Chronicle

The 2012-2025 volumes are complete. Following the rule that a completed year is not rebuilt and only one earlier year is prepared per run, this volume covers 2011 only. The accessible primary record is concentrated in Tokyo Game Show 2011's organizer archive; specialist gatherings without reliable dates, places, and outcomes are not reconstructed from later evidence.

1. Evidence boundary

Tokyo Game Show 2011's official overview lists September 15-16 as business days and September 17-18 as public days at Makuhari Messe. This volume uses the organizer's archived Japanese and English rules for cosplayers to verify the published conditions for costumes, changing, cloakroom use, movement, and photography.12

Tokyo Game Show is a general game exhibition, not an animegao kigurumi event. Its rules directly mention “large kigurumi,” translated by the organizer as “large size full-body suits,” but identify no animegao participant or attendance count. The separately announced Cosplay Collection Night is described only as a cosplay fashion show and dance party, with no animegao or kigurumi program specified.3 This volume records how a public exhibition governed large kigurumi and adjacent cosplay infrastructure; it does not turn a general cosplay event or the existence of a rule into evidence of attendance.

2. Verifiable nodes

September 17-18: the verifiable large-kigurumi rule baseline moves back to 2011

The public-day rules place large kigurumi, papier-mache costumes, and floor-dragging skirts or mantles in the category of costumes that inconvenience others. The Japanese text adds that long skirts and mantles may be opened for photography but must be folded while moving.2

This does not prove animegao appeared at the venue, nor does it make every form of kigurumi the same size risk. It updates the source boundary: the “large kigurumi” circulation rule previously recorded in the 2012 volume can now be verified one year earlier in the same organizer archive. Shared wording is not expanded again.

September 17-18: Hall 2 changing, cloakroom, and early access formed one workflow

The designated changing room was in Hall 2. Its JPY 500 fee included cloakroom use. Changing elsewhere, including restrooms, was prohibited, as were eating, resting, and photography in the room; the men's room could temporarily become a women's room. Costumes were checked at the exit, participants had to return by 16:00, arrival or departure in costume was prohibited, and sewing kits were available from staff.2

The room was scheduled to open early from the first train at Kaihin-Makuhari Station until 8:00; participants who finished changing had to rejoin the end of the general-admission queue. The archived page proves that the organizer published these facilities and procedures. It is not a post-event report and does not establish usage or animegao participation.

September 17-18: designated photography used a wall to exclude bystanders

Photography was limited to part of Yasuragi Mall between Halls 3 and 4 and other areas designated by the management office. Photographers had to obtain the subject's permission and use a wall as the background so unrelated people were not included. Venue photos could not be submitted or sold to publications, commercial photography was prohibited, and personal-site posting required the relevant person's consent.2

The 2012 rules retained the consent and commercial-use principles but moved changing to Hall 7 South and explicitly added a south, ocean-facing outdoor photo area and a venue-wide video prohibition.4 This volume therefore retains only the Hall 2 workflow and the wall-background spatial baseline. The new 2012 space and distribution boundaries remain in the 2012 volume.

3. Domain decision

Domain Verifiable 2011 material Editorial treatment
Chronicle TGS dates, venue, and public-day participation conditions Annual spine
Daily life / discussion Hall 2 fee, cloakroom, early changing, costume checks, and sewing-kit loans Organizer-published workflow only
Workshop / craft On-site repair tools, but no verifiable maker release No workshop entry
Reference / education “Large kigurumi” is a size and circulation boundary, not evidence of animegao attendance Evidence note
Etiquette / safety Changing privacy, photo consent, wall backgrounds, commercial use, and publication consent Included
Academic No directly relevant and verifiable 2011 publication found Omitted

The existing chronicle, daily-life/discussion, reference/education, and etiquette/safety structure is sufficient. One general-exhibition rule page does not justify a separate event, craft, or academic section.

4. De-duplication against 2012-2025

Continuing theme Retained in 2011 Treatment in later years
Kigurumi at a public exhibition The earlier verifiable 2011 rule date 2012 is no longer the earliest date, but keeps its new space and image-use boundaries
Changing and cloakroom Hall 2, JPY 500 including cloakroom, early opening, and temporary room reassignment 2012 retains the Hall 7 move; 2013 retains the Hall 9 move
Photography and distribution Yasuragi Mall, designated areas, and a wall background 2012 retains the seaward outdoor area and video restriction; later years keep only new rules
General cosplay event Cosplay Collection Night supplies no animegao or kigurumi program evidence Its description of about 100 cosplayers is not recorded as kigurumi attendance

5. Annual conclusion

The stable 2011 record is an earlier public-participation baseline at Tokyo Game Show: large kigurumi were already included in circulation rules; Hall 2 provided paid changing and cloakroom use, early access, and repair tools; and photography was confined to designated areas with a wall used to exclude bystanders. Hall 7, the seaward outdoor photo area, and the video restriction belong to the 2012 change and are not repeated here. Individual animegao participants, specialist gatherings, facility usage, and event outcomes remain unknown.
