2017 Kigurumi Chronicle¶
The 2016 and 2018-2025 volumes now have dedicated pages. This de-duplication pass retains only AnimeJapan facilities added in 2017 and one community-run survey; the base kigurumi area, photography, and changing rules already recorded in 2016 are not repeated.
1. Evidence boundary¶
This volume uses two types of record. AnimeJapan's first-party pages establish dates, venue, and event rules. The archived Kigurumi Census Results Report establishes the survey period, response count, questions, and the author's own limitations. It was neither a random sample nor peer-reviewed research, so its percentages cannot represent or be extrapolated to the whole kigurumi community.
The annual page does not reproduce the report's 73 pages and 205 figures. It records the report's chronological significance and links to the complete archived report.
2. Verified nodes¶
March 25-26: AnimeJapan 2017 expands public cosplay space and changing options¶
AnimeJapan 2017's public days ran March 25-26 in Tokyo Big Sight East Halls 1-7, one more hall than the overall 2016 event used. Cosplayers World moved into East Hall 7 and explicitly promoted its own expanded space. Alongside registration, shared changing rooms, cloakrooms, and photography areas, it introduced its first separately ticketed premium women-only changing room, sold by table for groups of up to three.12
The base rules confining vision- or movement-limiting costumes to cosplay areas, requiring photography consent, and protecting changing-room privacy were already recorded in the 2016 volume; 2017 continued rather than originated them.2 The year's distinct node is expanded capacity and a premium women-only option beyond the standard changing room. It remains general-convention infrastructure, not evidence of a specialist animegao event.
About one week from October 4: a community census creates a quantitative snapshot¶
The “Kigurumi Census” initiated by Kussy (@kussy_tessy) received 221 responses. After excluding one response that did not accept the opening consent statement, 220 remained valid. The questionnaire circulated through the author's surrounding Twitter network. Its preface explicitly acknowledges population bias, question framing, and lack of neutrality, so this archive treats it as a bounded community self-record, not a population census or academic finding.3
The report covers participation, years active, masks and clothing, production sources, photography, social contact, identity, and intimate subjects. Two limited indicators are useful for the annual overview: among the 217 valid answers to the participation-mode question, 53% said they wore kigurumi at events or offline gatherings and 15% mainly wore it alone; the experience question had 216 valid answers and an average of 5.9 years, while after non-participants were excluded, more than half still had no more than five years of activity.3 These percentages describe this sample only.

The existing survey-report section already gives the source a suitable dedicated home. A second section would duplicate it, and one bounded survey node does not justify a separate academic section.

5. Annual conclusion¶
The strongest 2017 record is not a dense event list but two increments: a large public venue expanded cosplay capacity and changing choices, while the community produced a comparatively large quantitative self-record. The base rules belong to the 2016 volume, and the 2017 convenience sample still does not represent the whole community.
